About

Elena Sheppa

I live on a small farm and share it with a menagerie of exotic animals. Caring for these animals and the property on a daily basis gives me inspiration for my artwork. I come to the world of glass as “self taught.” My formal training is in figurative sculpture and drawing. However, glass is a versatile medium that is both functional and sculptural which makes it accessible and enjoyable for almost everyone.

Any glass surface can have a drawing on it. The functional glasswork I make happens to be custom-blown using a two color overlay process. It is then sandblasted and diamond wheel etched. The glass panels for my wall sculptures are sandblasted, diamond wheel engraved, and reverse painted. Often, I add small carved sculptures to the framed wall pieces. These are carved by hand and painted. I am interested in creating both functional and non-functional work as a creative way to share and record the events that happen as I live and work with animals. If you are interested in any of these pieces, feel free to contact me.
